Just in case you don't remember ... Adal is the demon god that our heroes were originally sent to kill (or at least get his tears) but they ended up sort of befriending him (partly, kinda, somewhat). However, in the future he has the Paladin's son in a sort of hostage situation. If this all sounds complicated, just wait for the next episode ...
